Previously called the Retired Faculty and Staff Committee, the first efforts to recognize retiring faculty and staff were made in 1970, with 500-600 persons attending the highly successful reception at the President’s home. In 1971, a Faculty Council Committee on Retired Faculty and Staff was created, and planned events to include more receptions, dinners, and clinics on planning for retirement. In subsequent years, a Retiree’s Handbook was produced for Tech employees.

Created in 1941 under President Clifford B. Jones, the Faculty Advisory Committee consisted of twelve members elected by the faculty. The Committee was encouraged to make recommendations to the Administrative Council, but had no administrative authority.
